Acne Treatment Options GlycoShea Glycolic Acid and AmberSoy Soap Gel
by Board-certified Dermatologist George Woodbury Jr. M.D. 07/04/2023
Acne is a type of genetically sensitive skin condition with blackheads and whiteheads leading to bumps, pustules, and even facial and truncal scarring. In over 30 years of practicing as a Memphis Dermatologist, I’ve seen many new and effective lines of prescription acne treatment emerge: prescription retinoid creams, azelaic acid, and newer oral antibiotics like Sarecycline, as well as oral medications like isotretinoin (Accutane treatment) (isotretinoin treatment).
If you suffer from acne, consider first setting up an appointment with a Board-certified Dermatologist. My own Memphis Dermatology practice is with Rheumatology and Dermatology, www.Rheumderm.com, in Cordova, TN, a suburb of Memphis (1-901-753-0168). Or you can find a Dermatologist closer to you by going to the “Find a Dermatologist” tab on the American Academy of Dermatology web site, AAD.org.
Even with prescription creams and gels, many people with acne need effective Acne Cleanser and Acne moisturizer to help with oily skin or combination skin, or to remedy the side-effect of dry skin that can develop with use of prescription creams or gel. In 2016, I became President of Big River Silk Skincare, manufacturer and distributor of an antiwrinkle cream and exfoliating moizturizer – GlycoShea™ Facial and Neck Lotion – and a special cleanser – AmberSoy Soap Gel – products I had used for years for acne treatment with my Tennessee patients.
So what’s so special about the GlycoShea Lotions and Creams? Their AHA or “Alpha-hydroxy Acid,” promotes what’s called skin exfoliation, helping to even out skin color and to reduce wrinkles, making them into anti-wrinkle cream. AHAs are often also helpful as exfoliating night cream moisturizers for people with both Acne and Acne Rosacea who are experiencing peeling from prescription anti-agents like Retin A® Cream and Benzoyl peroxide anti-acne washes.
The GlycoShea Creams blend the skin-moisturizing properties of Refined Shea Butter, a natural product from an African tree, with the skin-smoothing effects of Glycolic Acid, an organic moisturizer originally discovered in sugarcane and pineapple. At Big River Silk Skincare, we blend these components into emulsions, with the purest natural water in the United States, from the Memphis Sands.
GlycoShea Facial&Neck Lotion Standard Strength: 1 oz: $39.95/2 oz; $59.95;8 oz; $179.95

Note that the Glycoshea Lotions are light preparations better suited for oily skin or combination skin, whereas the GlycoShea Creams work well with either combination skin or dry skin.
The GlycoShea Creams work best when used with a soft glycerine cleanser also manufactured by Big River Silk Skincare: Ambersoy™ Soap Gel. Being a gel, AmberSoy can be used as a face or body mask, whereby it’s rubbed into the skin, then left in place for 3-20 minutes, before rinsing it off. It’s suitable for people with oily skin, combination skin, and dry skin, for a particularly deep clean. Big River manufactures AmberSoy in Tennessee, under careful quality control, with no propylene glycol, no sulfates, no dyes, and no parabens. AmberSoy is available in Mint, Lemon, and No Fragrance Added. 1 oz: $12.95/2 oz: $18.95/8 oz: $59.95.
People with especially dry skin benefit from Vanicream Gentle Facial Cleanser (8 oz: $21.20) or Vanicream Bar Soap ($3.95). Both are fragrance-free and propylene glycol-free (www.Bigriversilkskincare.com).
