Acne Options, from Memphis Dermatologist George Woodbury Jr. M.D. 10/31/2021

The good news for Fall 2021 is that there are so many new treatment options for acne, for people with dry skin, combination skin, or oily skin. A great place to start sorting out these options is to get a consultation with a Board-certified Dermatologist.

My own Memphis Dermatology practice for the last 29 years has been with Rheumatology and Dermatology in Cordova, Tennessee, since 1993. Or you can find a Dermatologist close to you by going to the American Academy of Dermatology’s wwww.AAD.org, to “Find a Dermatologist.” Just plug in your zip code, and you’ll get a list of Derms in your area.

Acne options range from topical therapies (meaning “on top of the skin”) to prescription antibiotics to an oral medicine called isotretinoin (Accutane).

Topical options include salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, retinoids (like Tretinoin Cream and Tretinoin Gel), topical dapsone, and topical azelaic acid. Depending upon what type of skin you or your family member has, your Dermatologist can sort through which of these would work best for you.

In 2016, I became President of a skincare products company – Big River Silk Skincare Inc. – to manufacture and distribute over-the-counter products used by my own family of four Board-certified Woodbury Dermatologists since the 1980s. Two of these products make a winning combination for people with oily skin or combination skin with complexion issues: AmberSoy™ Soap Gel and GlycoShea™ Facial&Neck Cream. Our team of Dermatologists manufactures these products in Memphis, Tennessee, under strict quality control standards.

AmberSoy Soap Gel is a versatile cleanser gel for people with oily skin or combination skin, as an exfoliating cleanser. It can be used as a face mask, leaving it on for 3-5 minutes prior to rinsing off, for a really deep clean. (Available in Mint, Lemon, and No Fragrance Added. 1 oz: $12.95; 2 oz: $18.95; 8 oz: $59.95).

GlycoShea Facial&Neck Cream contains Shea Butter mixed or emulsified with some of the purest natural water in the Unites States, Memphis Aquifer water, and Glycolic Acid, an Alpha-hydroxy Acid originally discovered in sugarcane and pineapple. It acts as an anti-wrinkle cream by smoothing out the outer layers of the skin, and it can leave your skin with a radiant, smooth texture. (1 oz: $39.95;2 oz: $59.95/8 oz: $179.95).

Big River Silk Skincare offers free USPS shipping for U.S. orders above $40.00 ($75.00 for Canadian orders). Or you can pick up our products at our international headquarters at 8143 Walnut Grove Road, Cordova TN 38018, M-F from 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM.

Be aware that acne that smolders can leave scars, some of which may become permanent. By all means, get a prompt evaluation by your Dermatologist if you’ve had breakouts that aren’t clearing up. You might need an acne tune-up, and fortunately there are now a lot of effective options that your Dermatologist can prescribe to help you get that radiant smile.
