GlycoShea Cream GlycoShea Lotion Exfoliation

The skin consists of three layers – the epidermis, which is the thin, outermost layer; the dermis, which I the thicker, stronger middle layer; and the subcutaneous layer, which is where the body stores fat. The outermost layer – the epidermis – is constantly replenishing new cells, while our skin sheds or “exfoliates” older, dead cells. Exfoliation or Exfoliating is the removal of these old dead skin cells, similar to the process whereby trees “exfoliate” or shed their dead leaves in the autumn.
Certain chemicals – first discovered in fruits and milk – called Alpha Hydroxy Acids or Alpha-Hydroxy Acids or AHAs – promote skin Exfoliation – helping to improve the appearance of fine lines in the skin – making them into a type of Antiwrinkle Cream. Also sometimes called “Fruit Acids,” these chemicals include Lactic Acid, originally discovered in spoiled milk; Pyruvic Acid, first discovered in grapes; Mandelic Acid, discovered in sweet almond; and Glycolic Acid, originally discovered in Pineapple and Sugarcane.
Glycolic Acid has advantages over the other because being a small molecule, it easily penetrates the skin, making it the most popular peeling agent used by United States Dermatologists for office-based procedures like chemical peels.
After 25 years practicing Dermatology, starting in 2016, for my own Memphis Dermatology patients, in Tennessee, I designed antiwrinkle cream and antiwrinkle moisturizer: a moisturizer product called GlycoShea® Cream and GlycoShea Lotion, with the moisturizing properties of Shea Butter and the Exfoliation benefits of Glycolic Acid. GlycoShea Cream tends to be more appealing to people as a dry skin cream, whereas GlycoShea Lotion is most appropriate as a combination skin or oily skin moisturizer.
A lot of careful thought went into the design of the GlycoShea Creams. I pulled upon 25 years of working with people needing Eczema Treatment, Atopic Dermatitis Treatment, and Psoriasis Treatment. Being a member of the American Contact Dermatitis Society, I decided to make these products into “hypoallergenic cream” by avoiding preservatives like formaldehyde, and avoiding sulfates, dyes, and perfumes. The concept is organic cream and natural cream, with a minimum of additives.
Both GlycoShea Cream and GlycoShea Lotion come in Standard Strength and High Strength, the latter having a more robust preparation of Glycolic Acid, for generally quicker results as an antiwrinkle cream. Both lines come in a preparation for Hand&Body, and a preparation for Facial&Neck. GlycoShea is also available as an Oil, in Standard Strength and High Strength, to allow even more lubrication and preparation
